A Post-Election Message from Leonard Burton

It has been only a few short months since we were at the state Convention in Greensboro beginning our work for this election season and beyond, but in many respects it seems like a long time ago. That is because we have had a lot going on.

Many of our members have worked very hard on campaigns such as those of Les Merritt, Carl Mumpower, and BJ Lawson. We need to take a moment and celebrate our hard work!

All of our candidates gave an impressive performance and, I think, fared very well considering the general disgust with "Republicans" by many of the general voters.

What does this mean for us?

It is time for us to double down our efforts as I think 2010 will be an entirely different affair. In 2 more years we will have seen how the Democrats have led us down a path of promises that go no further than the Bridge to Nowhere.

In two years, there will not be the outpouring of Democrats trying to get a president elected, and we will be able to get our message out much more clearly.

I also believe that our Party needs leadership. Our party has sat back on the belief that a generic "conservative" message is all that is needed to win. Nothing could be further than the truth.

Our party needs people like you and me to step up to the plate and show that there is REAL Hope and Change to be had, and that change is going back to the traditional GOP message of Liberty and Freedom.

The Spring will be here soon enough, and in the Spring we will be having County and District conventions where County and District Chairmans will be elected. We need to be in these positions!

We need to assert our influence and show that the message of liberty is what is missing in the GOP.

Will you join with me and help us take this next step?

If we do not take this next step now, our party may be forever lost as the Democrats continue to gerrymander and otherwise whittle away at the grip our party currently has. It is time to move forward, and we most certainly will be able to jump this hurdle.

Let us look at the campaign of President-Elect Obama and realize what is possible! His campaign is an excellent example of what happens when there is a strong grass roots movement.

Congressman Ron Paul gave a strong boost to our movement last year, and it is time we move forward with his message. Will Congressman Paul run again? Will Governor Mark Sanford run next? Or who will the liberty candidate be?

If we slowly start working now, we can fill congress with liberty candidates in two years and possibly even put a liberty-minded presidential candidate in office in 2012.

It is a good time to be a Republican as we continue to look forward.

President-Elect Obama has beaten all odds and won. Why can't we?

Please take a moment and send in your membership application if you have not officially joined the RLC, or if you are already a member please send a contribution so we can build the momentum it takes to get such an effort going. Thank you for your support of the message of Liberty, and I look forward to being able to meet in the near future after the holiday season.

Sincerely Yours,
Leonard Burton

About the Republican Liberty Caucus of North Carolina...

The Republican Liberty Caucus of North Carolina (RLCNC) is a grassroots organization working to advance the principles of limited government, individual liberty, and free enterprise within the Republican Party and throughout North Carolina. Key goals include creating an awareness of the issues and supporting pro-liberty candidates at the state and national levels. Our candidates focus on a broad range of issues, including taxation, property rights, gun rights, free speech, federalism and the proper role of government.

Offering a home for smaller government Republicans within the party, the Republican Liberty Caucus helps avoid a potential exodus to Libertarian, Constitution, and other third parties; this weakening of the Republican Party could open the door for victories from leftist candidates pushing big government agendas. The Republican Liberty Caucus is proud to promote the Republican Party’s historic small government message.

While rolling back decades of government “nannyism” will require extensive public education and grassroots organizing, the most important means of changing public policy is to change public officials. Therefore, the Republican Liberty Caucus works to elect pro-liberty Republicans to offices at all levels, partisan and non-partisan, in both primary and general elections.

The RLC was founded in 1988 here in North Carolina and now has members in every state. The North Carolina Chapter (RLC-NC) is committed to electing pro-liberty Republicans in North Carolina.
